Delhi, N.Y. – SUNY Delhi Athletics is proud to announce its 2024–25 Male and Female Athletes of the Year: men’s basketball standout Isiah Barnes and record-breaking track star Shaesha Johnson. The two student-athletes are being honored for their exceptional performances, leadership, and contributions to their respective programs over the past year.
Isiah Barnes – Men’s Basketball
A dynamic force on the hardwood, junior Isiah Barnes was named the 2024–25 SUNY Delhi Male Athlete of the Year after a dominant season that earned him Second Team All-North Atlantic Conference (NAC) honors.
Barnes led the Broncos in several key statistical categories, finishing the season #1 on the team in steals per game, assists per game, and minutes played per game. He also ranked second on the team in both points and rebounds per game, while maintaining one of the best assist-to-turnover ratios on the roster. His impact extended beyond Delhi, as he also finished among the top performers in the NAC, leading the conference in both assists and steals per game.
“Isiah embodies the “Team Before Me” approach, and it was a great pleasure to coach him. He was an amazing leader for our program and we’ll miss him a great deal, said head basketball coach Jonathan Annan. “He has cemented his legacy at this institution across the board and I’m beyond proud of him. Winning this award is a big deal, and is a great testament to the student athlete Isiah is.”
In addition to his standout season, Barnes capped off a decorated four-year career with several major milestones. He became a 1,000-point scorer, was a four-year starter, and leaves SUNY Delhi as the program’s all-time leader in steals. His legacy is firmly cemented as one of the most impactful players in Delhi basketball history.
Shaesha Johnson – Women’s Track & Field
First-year sprinter Shaesha Johnson delivered a historic debut campaign, earning the title of 2024–25 SUNY Delhi Female Athlete of the Year after an extraordinary season on the track.
Johnson garnered two NCAA Division III All-American honors in the 100-meter dash and as a member of the 4x100-meter relay team, solidifying her place as one of the premier sprinters in the nation. She was named SUNYAC Rookie of the Year and earned First Team All-SUNYAC recognition.
“I am thrilled to see Shaesha Johnson named as SUNY Delhi's Athlete of the Year. She had a remarkable freshman year in both indoor and outdoor track, said head track & field coach Alex Devine. “She now holds 4 school records and 2 all-american honors. The athlete of the year recognition highlights all she has accomplished this season. Congratulations to Shaesha! The Bronco community is looking forward to her continued success!”
Her performances rewrote the SUNYAC record books. Johnson broke a 37-year-old conference record in the 100-meter dash and helped set a new SUNYAC record in the 4x100 relay. She continued her winning streak at the regional level, capturing All-Atlantic Region titles in both events while setting new meet records in each.
In addition to her conference and national accolades, Johnson set multiple school records, including the 60-meter dash (7.65 seconds), 100-meter dash, and as part of the 4x100-meter relay team.
