Delhi, NY - The SUNY Delhi men's basketball team was back in action Friday to kick off their 2024-25 campaign, collecting the 74-71 victory over Castleton.
A thrilling season opener to remember for the Broncos, a contest that was back-and-forth all game long. Delhi would jump out to an early lead in the first half that the Spartans would close the gap on entering the break within one. The second half saw several lead changes that would ultimately be decided in the final seconds. Senior Lester McCarthy had his finger prints all over this game, leading the way for the Broncos to finish with 25 points and become Delhi's newest member of the 1000-point club. In fitting fashion, McCarthy would cap off his historic night by nailing the game-winning three-pointer with just seconds remaining. Delhi would also get a strong contribution from senior Isiah Barnes, falling one rebound shy of a triple double and finishing with 17 points, 9 rebounds, and 10 assists.
The Broncos improve to 1-0 and will next go on the road to take on Merchant Marine on Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m.
