Volleyball Two-for-Two at Worcester State Tournament, Continues Hot Stretch

WORCESTER, Mass. (September 25, 2021) - The SUNY Delhi women's volleyball team went on the road Saturday for their first tri-match test of the season at the Worcester State Tournament. The Broncos pulled through, going two-for two with a sweep of Fitchburg State and a four-set victory over the host Lancers to go to 8-3 on the year and marking their eighth win in their last nine matches. With two more wins under its belts, Delhi is back in action on their home court Monday to take on Elmira at 6:00 p.m.

DELHI 3, FITCHBURG STATE 0

The Broncos had a rocky start against the Falcons being down most of the first set. Delhi trailed most of the set, but after a quick timeout they were able to come back to tie the score up 14-14 with a 7-1 run. The Broncos finished the first set with a score of 25-20. The following two sets Delhi dominated the Falcons with set scores of 25-6 in set two and 25- 14 in set three. 

The leader for kills in the match was by Stephanie Burke who totaled seven kills for the Broncos. Grace Thomas led the Broncos in assists for the match with 24, while also tallying four kills and three service aces. Rebecca Hueler also added three service aces, as well as leading the team in digs with 14. 

DELHI 3, WORCESTER STATE 1

Delhi had a rough early start in the match against Worcester State as they trailed in the first set and after a timeout, the Lancers pulled away to take set one with a score of 25-15. Delhi fought back to take the next three sets all with close set scores of 25-20, 25-22, and 25-16. Delhi was able to take the lead in all three sets and remain in control for the rest of the match. 

Leading the team with kills for the match was Bailee Jones with a dozen kills on a .312 kill percentage, while also picking up 17 digs for the Broncos. Witchney Clersainville added eight more kills for the Broncos, as well as one block assist. Stephanie Burke led the team with four services aces, while knocking down six kills. Grace Thomas again led the team with 36 assists and adding six digs with one service ace. She also tallied five kills on a .312 kill percentage to match Jones in the latter category. Rebecca Heuler led the team in digs, picking up 28.
