Volleyball Goes Five Sets at Sage to Begin Season

ALBANY, N.Y. (September 2, 2021) - SUNY Delhi women's volleyball had their first test of the 2021 season Wednesday at Sage. Despite an opening-set win, the Broncos were defeated in five sets.

Delhi jumped out to a 25-20 win to open the fray before the Gators clamped down with a 25-18 victory in set two and a confident 25-13 win in the third frame. The Broncos responded with a 25-18 triumph to force a deciding game, only for Sage to storm out to an 11-4 fifth-set advantage on its way to the 15-11 deciding win.

Bailee Jones and Sage Renneisen each chalked up ten kills to lead the team, while Grace Thomas added a club-high 22 assists with eight kills. Jones contributed more team highs with 15 digs and three of the squad's six service aces. Witchney Clersainville and Stephanie Burke each charted three total blocks, including one block solo for Clersainville.

The Broncos were guilty of 13 service errors and 12 receiving errors. They posted a .061 hitting percentage with 39 kills, compared to Sage's .122 with 42 kills.

Head coach Beau Bracchy's team looks to rebound in their home opener Thursday night, welcoming Marywood to Floyd L. Maines Arena at 7:00 p.m.
