2022-23 Men's Basketball Season Preview

2022-23 Men's Basketball Season Preview

The Men's Basketball program is almost back underway for the 2022-23 season after winning 20 games last year. The Broncos are fresh off a solid year under head coach Zach Thomsen. Delhi fell in the NAC West Final last year but will look to make it further in Thomsen’s eighth year in charge.

The 2022-23 Broncos will feature 20 players on the roster with seven new faces and 13 returning players. The seven new Broncos include three transfers and four freshmen. The new additions will look to assimilate with the already solid core that has been established.

Top newcomers include freshman Gustarling Louis, a guard from Elmont New York. He had been the NCBCA Player of the Year and Conference A2 Player of the Year and will look to immediately impact the deep Delhi roster. Another new addition ready to make an impact is junior transfer, Marven Louissaint, from Tompkins Cortland CC. His accolades before joining include NJCAA Academic All-American and Team Defensive Player of the Year.

"This pre-season has been great, having 13 returners has really helped with our team’s retention from day to day," said head coach Thomsen, "Our guys have done a great job of competing every day in practice."

Key returners for the Broncos are starters Isiah Barnes, Lester McCarthy, Maveson Therneus and Pablo Quinones. Barnes, the sophomore point guard averaged 7.5 points and 4.8 assists last season in 28.8 minutes a game. While Therneus returns as the Green and Gold's highest scorer averaging 14 points last season. He will play a big roll down low as he also was the Broncos leader in rebounds with 7.5 a game. Therneus will pair with Pablo Quinones down low as they did last year.

Big non-conference games include opponents RPI, Williams College and Utica. The Broncos take on RPI on November 15th in an away game. While they take on Williams and Utica in two separate tournaments throughout the year.

Important NAC conference games throughout the season include when the Broncos take on NAC West winners SUNY Poly at home on January 20th. They will also take on reigning NAC Champions, Husson, in Bangor Maine on January 6th.

The Broncos kick off their season on November 9th in Delhi when they take on Sage College at 7 p.m. They will then go on a four-game away section before returning to Delhi to take on future NAC opponents Morrisville State.
