Men’s Basketball starts the year off in style with big win over Bard; Quinones breaks Block Record with huge night

Annandale-on-Hudson, New York - The Broncos (8-5, 2-1) traveled up to Bard University to play their second to last non-conference game of the year and defeated the Raptors 104-75. Five players would reach double-digits in scoring as the Broncos shot an impressive 53% from the field and had 58 points in the paint.

The Broncos started the game going on a 10-0 run in the first five minutes as Isiah Barnes got started with a layup just four-seconds in. They would play solid defense only giving up the first points from the charity stripe. 

The first half would be full of streaks from both teams as both would go on multiple scoring runs. The Broncos would finish the half on a 9-0 scoring streak in the final 1:45 to bring the score to 50-41 at the half. Delhi shot 52.5% (21/40) from the field and 54% (6/11) from three as they poured in 24 points from in the paint. 

Isiah Barnes and Jacob Beach would lead the way in scoring, combining for 22 points with 11 each. While Pablo Quinones would have himself a block party with his career-high seven blocks in the half. That would be good enough for the most blocks ever by a SUNY Delhi men's basketball player in a half. 

Delhi started the second half with the same energy as the first, going on a 10-2 run. They would go on more scoring runs in the second as they would eventually lead by as much as 34. The Broncos finished with five scorers in double digits including four starters. 

Jacob Beach led the way in the end with 22 points and nine rebounds, shooting 69% from the field and 80% from deep. Quinones would be just one point from his career-high with 20 points as he went on to break the program's record for most blocks in a game with 10. In his career night, he would shoot 73% from the field and 67% from deep while being just two rebounds from having a triple-double. Isiah Barnes would also finish with a solid statline putting up 19 points and dishing out seven assists. While Lester McCarthy put up 15 points, eight rebounds and four steals to round out the impressive Bronco effort. 

Delhi will look ahead to a big weekend to kick off a run of conference games when they take on Husson at 7:30 P.M. on January 6th. They will then continue on the road and play NAC opponents UMPI the following day.
