Delhi Outlasts SUNY Cobleskill 71-56 at Home for Sixth Win in a Row

Delhi, NY - The SUNY Delhi men's basketball (14-7, 7-3) team took down SUNY Cobleskill 71-56 at home, grabbing their sixth win in a row. The Broncos now pass the Fighting Tigers to take the top spot in the NAC West Division.

After losing earlier in the season to the Tigers, Delhi wanted to even up the score in today's contest. They started off cold in the first half, grabbing their first lead of the night over halfway through the half. The Broncos went on an 11-point scoring run grabbing the lead and never giving it back. They would go into the half with a six point lead while shooting 28.2% (11/39). Lester McCarthy was a big reason for the first-half surge, hitting five threes for 15 points while grabbing six rebounds.

The second half would be a battle with Cobleskill coming back and grabbing the lead halfway through the half. The Broncos would immediately respond to losing their lead, going on a 13-point scoring run to build up a comfortable double-digit lead. They would then be able to outlast the Fighting Tigers holding their lead thanks to some great Delhi basketball. Naphtali Regilus would have an excellent second half against his former team, making two huge three-pointers and scoring all 14 of his points. He ended with six rebounds including three on the offensive side.

Two Broncos ended with a double-double in the stats sheet. Lester McCarthy finished his solid game with a 16-point, 11-rebound, double-double. He had an all-around great game grabbing six offensive boards and recording his second double-double of the season.

Mavenson Therneus also recorded a double-double with 11 rebounds and 13 points. Therneus who was recognized before the game for scoring his 1,000 points is just three points from the SUNY Delhi All-Time Scoring Record. Point guard Isiah Barnes also had a great game, nabbing four steals. He ranked just second in the NAC with 2.2 steals on average per game.

With this win at home, Delhi now remains undefeated at home this season with an impressive record of (10-0).

The Broncos will move on to facing Cazenovia in an away game on Friday, February 3rd at 7:30 PM.
