The Broncos Earn Big Win Over Russell Sage 95-60 in Season Opener

Delhi, NY - Delhi (1-0) took on Russell Sage College in their home opener of the season, taking down the Gators 95-60 in an outstanding night for the Broncos. They finally got their first win over Sage after being defeated in their last three matchups.

"It was a great start to the season, we got some tremendous contributions from a number of players," said head coach Zack Thomsen, "We definitely have some things we need to clean up and improve on, but I thought our intensity and togetherness was where it needed to be."  

The Broncos jumped out of the gates and never looked back, leading the game for almost 37 minutes. They were completely dominant through the first half, going on an 11-point scoring run in the middle. The Gators couldn't keep up as the Green and Gold outscored them in fast break points 16 to five. Delhi was led by sophomore Lester McCarthy's 11 points and four steals at the half. While senior Jacob Beach added his own nine points off the bench.

The Green and Gold kept their foot on the gas through the second half, outscoring Sage 54-32. The Broncos bench stepped-up scoring 27 of the second-half points. While 10 different players found the bottom of the net. McCarthy led the way again in scoring through the half with a team-high of 10 points. He would end the game with the most points from the two teams with 21 points and a +35 plus-minus. 

The Broncos ended with their biggest lead of the night, 35 points, while only giving up the lead once throughout the game. They were dominant down low all game, outscoring their opponents 46-28 in the paint. Delhi shot the ball well too, going 45% from the field. Jacob Beach ended his night with a double-double with ten boards and 15 points. Senior Mavenson Therneus added his own 13 points and five rebounds with a 50% field goal percentage. While newcomer Naphtali Regilus added a spark from the bench in his first game, scoring 11 points on a 71% FG percentage. 

Delhi will head to play Cornell in an exhibition game Thursday, November 10th at 7 p.m. before taking on RPI away on November 15th.
