Therneus Breaks All-Time Scoring Record as Delhi makes it seven in a row with win over Cazenovia

Cazenovia, NY - Men's basketball (15-7, 8-3) traveled to play Cazenovia in a NAC West Division contest defeating the Wildcats 93-90 on Friday night. The Broncos remain top spot in the NAC West with a (6-1) divisional record.

The game went back and forth in the first half, seeing nine lead changes until the Broncos broke out to an eight-point lead with five minutes remaining. The lead was taken as Fauzi Cizmesija-Ulmer and Lester McCarthy both put in a three as Delhi scored eight straight. The Wildcats, as they would do all night, would then break the lead down to just two before the half as the Broncos led 43-41.

Mavenson Therneus was Delhi's top scorer with 13 first-half points as they had seven different players score. It was a historic first half for SUNY Delhi and Therneus as he just needed just three points to break the All-time Scoring Record. He went above and beyond with today's incredible performance and now stands alone at the top with 1,175 points.

The second half was just as tight, seeing six lead changes between the teams. Delhi held a four-point lead in the final two minutes but Wildcat's kept scoring. McCarthy and Therneus would both have to hit big free throws down the stretch to outlast Cazenovia for the second time this year.

Both Therneus and McCarthy would end with 23 points as the Broncos shot 47.8% (33-for-69) from the field and 41.7% (10-for-24) from deep. This was McCarthy's fifth time this season making at least five three-point attempts. He ranks second overall in the NAC in three-point percentage and three-pointers made on the season. Therneus would add four blocks and seven rebounds while pouring in two of his own three-pointers.

Senior Jacob Beach also had an impressive night recording a 19-point, 10 rebound, double-double. This was his sixth double-double of the year. His 7.6 rebounds per game rank ninth overall in the conference and is a big reason the Broncos lead the NAC in team-offensive rebounds.

The Broncos will be right back at it tomorrow Saturday, February 4th at SUNY Poly, starting at 3 PM after the women's game.
