Delhi, N.Y. - The SUNY Delhi Men's Soccer team will begin their 2024 campaign when they open their season at home on Friday, August 30, against Hartwick at 6 p.m.
The team is coming off an 11-3-4 season, finishing 5-1-2 in conference play, earning them a spot in the conference playoffs as the second seed in the west division. In the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) playoffs opening round, the team earned a home win over third-seeded Eastern Nazarene, outscoring the Lions for a 2-1 win. The team fell to SUNY Poly in the semifinals to conclude their 2023 campaign.
The returning unit for Delhi is comprised of 13 players, accompanied by a strong class of newcomers. Notable returners and team captains for the season include senior Erik Kleczkowski and junior Matt Serrao, both of whom were selected to the All-NAC team’s last season. Sophomore Roberto Velasquez-Osorio, who received Rookie of the Year along with All-Region honors last season, led the team with 53 points consisting of 24 goals and 5 assists. Michael Williams Jr. rounds out the group, totaling seven goals of his own last season.
The squad will look to return to the NAC tournament, led by now-first-year head coach Matthew Esposito. Esposito most recently rejoined the RPI coaching staff as an assistant coach in March 2022 after spending the previous three seasons as the head coach at Russell Sage College.
