Men's Soccer Ties Elmira 1-1 in Home Contest

Delhi, NY - The SUNY Delhi men's soccer team secured a 1-1 tie against the Soaring Eagles of Elmira on Wednesday evening, as they found the back of the net for the first time this season.

The first half saw Elmira with the slight advantage in possession and quality chances, while Delhi was able to manage the pressure and hold the Eagles scoreless. The Broncos once again were able to rely on their defense behind strong performances from sophomores Salvatore Meloni and Garrett Gill as the first half finished tied 0-0.

It was only a matter of time until last season's top goal scorer, sophomore Roberto Velasquez-Osorio, made his impact felt. Only a couple of minutes into the second half, he found the back of the net off a great pass from junior John Walsh. However, the lead would not last long; just a couple minutes later, Matt Crichton equalized the contest with a header off a cross from Pietro Gallina. It was a hard-fought back-and-forth battle for the remainder of the game without either team finding that desired go-ahead goal.

The Broncos move to 0-0-2 and will next play Potsdam away on Friday, Sept. 6 at 4 p.m. as Emira moves to 0-2-1.
