Old Westbury, NY - The SUNY Delhi men's soccer team fell 2-1 to Old Westbury on Wednesday evening.
The Broncos came into the contest red-hot, having won five games in a row. However, it would be Old Westbury that started fast, finding the back of the net 17 minutes in, as Chris Chimbo recorded his first goal of the season. The Broncos would battle back, responding not long after, with junior John Walsh scoring his 5th goal of the year on a pass from Roberto Velasquez-Osorio. In an even back-and-forth match, both sides would be tied at 1 apiece heading into the break.
In the opening minutes of the second half, Old Westbury would find themselves a go-ahead goal off the foot of Henrik Ropstad, assisted by Christian Mathurin. Delhi would finish the game outshooting Old Westbury 15-12 but came up just short of finding a late equalizer.
The Broncos move to 6-4-4, 5-0 in conference play and will next play SUNY ESF home on Oct. 19 at 2:00 p.m. for Senior Day.
