Delhi, NY - The SUNY Delhi men's soccer team dropped their first game of the season in a 2-1 loss to SUNY Canton.
A match between two teams that were very familiar with each other having competed against one another the last couple of seasons as part of the North Atlantic Conference (NAC). Canton has since made the jump this season to competing in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC).
Delhi opened up the scoring early with a goal off a loose ball from a corner kick; first-year Stephen Birmingham found the back of the net, giving the Broncos a 1-0 lead. In the closing minutes before halftime, Canton responded with a goal of their own, Christopher Guallpa, firing a long shot off the crossbar and into the back of the net, as the teams headed into halftime tied 1-1.
Early into the second half, the Kangaroos would find their go-ahead goal from Markel Mosley, assisted by Hayden Brimelow, to give them a 2-1 lead. Delhi would create some opportunities late but failed to find an equalizer.
The Broncos move to 1-1-2 and will next be on the road, taking on Marywood on Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 4 p.m.
