Utica, NY - The SUNY Delhi men's soccer team earned a 1-1 draw on the road against Utica.
The contest was a hard-fought battle from start to finish, a back and forth match that consisted of 11 shots from the Pioneers and 7 shots from the Broncos. Utica started fast, wasting no time getting on the scoresheet within the first five minutes of the game when Evan Smith slotted one home off an assist from Anderson Velazquez. The Pioneers finished the half strong, maintaining a 1-0 lead into the break.
Delhi remained resilient, destined to find an equalizer and shift the momentum in the second half. It was exactly that the Broncos did, as first-year Cristian Navarro picked a perfect time to score his first collegiate goal on an assist from junior John Walsh to tie the contest at one apiece. The match would remain a deadlock as the final whistle blew, earning the Broncos the tie against a competitive Utica squad.
The Broncos move to 1-3-4 and are back in action Saturday, Sept. 28 at 3:30 p.m. as they take on Vermont St. Lyndon to open up conference play.
