Freshman Alexa Wolcott breaks 10,000 meter school record at Hamilton College Invite

The SUNY Delhi track and field team was on the road again for what started as a wet day, but as the rain broke and the sun came out, the team posted some fantastic performances.

The big highlight came from freshman Alexa Wolcott who ran her first collegiate 10,000-meter race on the track. Wolcott ran among with top three all the way through the race, finishing in second place with a time of 42:18.58. That time set a new Delhi school record, eclipsing the record set by Gabby Dello in 2008 by less than a second.

The only event win for the women came from Kitty Messina who won the Javelin throw with a 32.00-meter toss. Other strong finishes came from Sabrina Richards in the 400 meters, placing second in a time of 1:00.93 as well as sprinters Kadie-Ann Whyte and Zoe Rodi. Whyte placed third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.83, just ahead of Rodi in fourth hitting 12.85. In the 200 meters, they reversed order with Rodi placing third in 26.20 and Whyte fourth in 26.46. Rodi's mark in the 200 moved her to number four all-time for the Delhi program.

On the men's side, there were four event wins and two athletes that punched their ticket to the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Championships to be held in May. Joshua Jeffes continued to improve his top-end speed, running a nice personal best of 10.81 seconds to win the 100-meter dash. Freshman teammate Deron Davis was just behind Jeffes with a third-place finish in 10.85. Both Jeffes and Davis hit the qualifying mark for the AARTFC with the times and now rank number three and four all-time at Delhi. Davis also ran the 200-meter dash where his winning time of 21.76 qualified him for the AARTFC in that event and drops in at number five all-time.

Morgan Condon won the 400-meter hurdles in a great early season time of 58.19 seconds. After a year without the event due to an injury, Condon picked up just one second off his time from the Regional Championships in 2021. John Amenta continued his great year winning the 5,000-meter run in a time of 15:24.95. Amenta ran among the leaders all the way and took the lead for good just before the 3,000-meter mark and stretching his lead out to 19 seconds at the finish.

Another strong individual finish came from Aidan Cutting who placed third in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:09.49. The men's 4x400 meter relay team of Lewis Race, Deron Davis, Christian Cuevas and Lorenzo Castro posted a terrific run of 3:26.43 led by Castro with a 49.33 split.

The team will move on to the Utica Pioneer Spring Invite on April 8th with events starting at 10:00 AM.
