Track and Field starts outdoor season at MSMC Invitational

Newburgh, NY - Delhi Broncos Track and Field team started their outdoor campaign with a small meet hosted my Mt. Saint Mary College. Although it was just the first meet of the season, multiple Broncos won their events and posted marks that placed them in the programs all-time rankings.

The most impressive performance of the day came from Alexa Wolcott who won the 5,000-meter run with a time of 19:19.17, which dropped her in the SUNY Delhi All-Time lists at number three in her first effort. Another Bronco who posting a good showing in the event was Marissa Lombardi, who ran 20:46.81 for fourth place. That time is just 12 seconds off her outdoor best, setting up what could be a great spring for Lombardi.

Miranda Cole continued her strong year, opening the outdoor season under 13 seconds for the 100 meters on a cold, windy day. She ran 12.96 seconds to place fourth overall in the event and dropped in at number nine all-time in Delhi's history in the event. The Broncos got another fourth-place finish from senior Mary Lyons in the women's 1,500-meter run. Lyons crossed the line in 5:37.80, a time that is only three seconds off her outdoor best which also indicates a great season coming for her.

The women also won the 4x400 relay as Sabrina Richards, Kadie-Ann Whyte, Kimberly Dean and Zoe Rodi combined for a time of 4:47.08.

For the men, the Broncos picked up four first place finishes. Josh Jeffes won the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.76 seconds, well ahead of second place. Senior Aidan Cutting won the 800-meter run by nearly two seconds, running 2:06.48 while teammate John Amenta won the 1,500-meter race by over two and a half seconds with a time of 4:08.17. The team also had a first-place finish in the men's 4x400 meter relay, winning with a time of 3:40.83.

Other strong performances came from Morgan Condon, who placed fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.76 seconds and a second team entered in the men's 4x400 relay took the runner-up spot in the race with a time of 3:46.29.

Next up, the team will travel to Hamilton Continental Invitational hosted by Hamilton College on April 1st.
