Broncos Off to Fast Start in Season Opener at Cornell

Ithaca, NY – The SUNY Delhi Track and Field team kicked off another season with the Greg Page Relays at Cornell University.  Running against a loaded field for a season opener, many Broncos got their season off to a great start.

The biggest highlight for Delhi came from Sophomore Joshua Jeffes, who shattered his own school record in the 300-meter dash.  Jeffes crossed the line in 34.54 seconds taking more than a second off his own school record he set last year.  Jeffes was second only to Cornell's Tomas Kersulius who set a new Barton Hall Facility Record.  Jeffes also matched his lifetime best in the 60-meter dash running 7.18 seconds to lead a large contingent of Broncos in the event.  The fast start is a great indicator for Jeffes, who finished the season as SUNY Delhi's first-ever NCAA All-American last year in the indoor 400 meters.

Also posting a great season opener was sophomore Morgan Condon in the 60 hurdles.  Condon, who finished last year with a best of 9.11 seconds, flew to a time of 8.75 seconds, running just off the AARTFC Qualifying mark of 8.70 seconds.  The 8.75-second performance also puts Condon into the all-time top 10 in SUNY Delhi history.

The men also had a strong runner-up finish in the distance medley relay where the team of Sam Lees, Lewis Race, Aidan Cutting and John Amenta ran 11:13.16.  The women's Distance Medley Relay team took fourth in their event with the team of Kristina Messler, Mary Lyons, Kailyn Oreglio and Marissa Lombardi combining to run 14:44.4.

Individually, the women were led by sophomore Kadie-Ann Whyte.  Whyte ran 8.17 seconds in the 60-meter dash to lead a large number of Delhi entries in the event. Then ran a strong 46.40 in the 300 meters to open her season with a new lifetime best by well over a second.

Other positive signs came from some new Broncos. For the men, freshman Deron Davis ran strong times in both the 60-meter dash (7.22) and the 300 meters (36.37).  The 60-meter dash performance drops Davis in the Delhi all-time list at number eight, while the 300-meter mark enters that list tied for number six in program history. For the women, freshman Miranda Cole ran a fast 8.22-second race in the 60-meter dash to enter the all-time list at number six in that event.  Following Cole was fellow freshmen Zoe Rodi.  Rodi, who spent the fall season helping the Broncos volleyball team to the NAC Championship game ran 8.38 seconds to enter the Delhi all-time list at number seven in the event.

Next up for the Broncos is a trip to Utica University for the Utica Holiday Classic on December 10 for their final competition before the winter break.
