Amenta Wins 3000-Meter Race as Track & Field Races at Bomber Invitational

Ithaca, NY - The Delhi Track and Field teams traveled to Ithaca College this weekend for the annual Bomber Invite. Both teams had many great performances and picked up an event win.

Sabrina Richards continued her incredible development as an athlete at Delhi. Richards dropped nearly another full second off of her indoor lifetime best in the 400 meters, winning the event in 1:01.91. Richards was in second place through the first lap, but coming around the final curve, she started closing the gap and ran past the leader down the stretch. Richards' time moves her up to number seven in program history.

Also having a strong day for the women was Kadie-Ann Whyte. Whyte advanced to the women's 60-meter dash final, running 8.15 in the 60-meter dash. In the final, she nearly repeated the effort, hitting 8.16 to place 4th in the invitational. Whyte also placed well in the 200-meter dash. Her time of 27.15 was good to place fifth in the event.

The men picked up their only event win from distance runner John Amenta. Amenta ran a lifetime best of 8:41.62 to win the 3000-meter race. He entered the final lap in second place but ran an impressive 28.55 second final circuit to pull away and win by two and a half seconds. Amenta's time moves him up to number five on the SUNY Delhi All-Time list for the 3000 meters. Fellow distance runner Aidan Cutting ran 4:24.65 in the men's mile to place fourth overall. Cutting had an impressive finish of his own entering the last lap in ninth place before overtaking five athletes in the last 200 meters.

In the shorter events, Deron Davis and Joshua Jeffes continued to run extremely well. Davis placed second in the 60-meter dash in 7.01 seconds, just off his lifetime best of 7.00. He did manage a big personal best in the 200 meters where he ran 22.36 seconds to place third and drop a half second from his best. Jeffes gathered a second-place finish of his own in the 200 meters, just ahead of Davis, running 22.12 seconds. He also hit a new lifetime best in the 60-meter dash running 7.06 seconds. Davis' time in the 200 moves him to number five in program history, while Jeffes moved to number six in the 60-meter event.

Lorenzo Castro continued to develop his sprinting prowess as he placed third overall in the 400 meters with a time of 51.96 seconds. Mickenson Simon, who had a huge breakthrough race in the 60-meter hurdles last week, was at it again. After dropping a quarter of a second off his lifetime best last weekend, he dropped another 0.12 in the prelims running 8.58 seconds. In the final, he ran a strong 8.61 seconds to place fourth overall. Simon's 8.58 moves him to number five all-time at SUNY Delhi.

The team will travel to Boston next weekend for a Sunday showdown in the Frozen Eight Conference Championship Meet to be held at the brand new Track at New Balance.
