2024 Women's Soccer Season Preview

Delhi, N.Y. - The SUNY Delhi Women's Soccer team will begin their 2024 campaign when they open their season at home on Wednesday, September 4, against Purchase at 6 p.m.

The team is coming off a 10-4-3 season, finishing 5-2-2 in conference play, earning them a spot in the conference playoffs as the third seed in the west division. In the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) playoffs west divisional semi-final, the team earned a thrilling victory in penalty kicks over Vermont State Johnson. The team ultimately fell to Morrisville St. in the West finals to conclude their 2023 campaign. Delhi will have a chance at redemption as they travel to Morrisville on September 24th for a non conference matchup.

Captains, juniors Kailey Leach, who totaled a goal with 3 assists last season, and Shaniyah Myers, who contributed 19 points consisting of 8 goals and 3 assists, will lead the squad into competition this year. Additionally, other notable returners that accounted for 65 combined starts last season include sophomores Ava Britsch, Ava Battista, Kaitlyn Hines, Riley Schmidt, and junior Ayla Vorisek.

The Broncos welcome a strong group of newcomers headlined by first-years Esther Carlson, Madison Thorbourne, and Sophia Kim to go along with transfers Ellie Avallone and Savannah Scarpa-Meade.

The squad will look to return to the NAC tournament, led by head coach Zach Ward, who is entering his fourth year with the program, while Laurie Owen enters her second season as assistant coach.
