Women's Soccer Dominates, Defeating Purchase 4-0

Delhi, NY - Under the lights for their season opener, the SUNY Delhi women's soccer team secured a 4-0 win against the Panthers of Purchase on Wednesday evening, as they shut out Purchase in a dominant performance.

Delhi wasted no time and found themselves ahead 1-0 just ten minutes in behind a goal from sophomore Riley Schmidt that was assisted by junior Shaniyah Myers. The squad wasn't finished there as junior Gabrielle Avallone found the back of the net, recording her first goal as a Bronco on a beautiful long shot. The Broncos went into halftime with a 2-0 lead.

The second half was much of the same, with the Broncos adding two more goals as first-year Belvia Konodji provided a spark off the bench, earning her first collegiate goal. First-year Estherline Carlson was all over the pitch, making her presence felt throughout. She totaled 8 shots, 4 of which were on target, before she got her well-deserved goal late in the second half.

The Broncos move to 1-0-0 and will next play Wellesley at home on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 5 p.m. as Purchase moves to 0-3-0 on the season.
