Samantha Schmidt Named as SUNY Delhi's Head Women's Soccer Coach

Delhi, N.Y. - Samantha Schmidt, who most recently served as the women’s soccer assistant coach at Vassar College, has been named as SUNY Delhi’s next head women’s soccer coach.

“We are thrilled to have Samantha join us to lead our women’s soccer program here at Delhi. This program has been incredibly successful since 2018, and we believe Samantha can bring her experiences as a player and a coach to forge the path forward, said Robb Munro, Director of Athletics. ‘She has coached club as well as at two different colleges, where she has seen all levels of play and player development and learned the game from multiple different perspectives. That combined with her proven experience in recruiting makes her a great fit for the Broncos!”

“I would like to thank Athletic Director Robb Munro and the entire search committee for awarding me this opportunity. I am extremely grateful for the support and mentorship from the coaches I have worked with and my family, said Schmidt. ‘I feel very fortunate and honored to be given the opportunity to lead the Delhi women's soccer program. As we look ahead, I am excited about the opportunities for growth—not only as a team but also as individuals. I look forward to cultivating a culture of excellence and helping our athletes achieve their goals on and off the field.”

Schmidt, a former student athlete at Russell Sage College, began her coaching career as a graduate assistant in 2022 before being promoted to assistant coach the following year. As assistant coach, Schmidt assisted in the day-to-day running of training programs while implementing an effective recruiting plan for prospective student-athletes. In March of 2024, Schmidt made the transition to a competitive program at Vassar College. She served as their assistant coach, helping the team reach the second round of the Division III NCAA Tournament.

In her time as a student-athlete, Schmidt was a four-year member of the women's soccer team at Russell Sage. She was a four-year starter and served as a team captain both as a senior and a graduate student. Schmidt graduated as the program's all-time leader in starts with 72 and was named First Team All-Empire 8 and to the Empire 8 All-Tournament Team in 2021.

Schmidt, who holds a USSF D License, graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and her Master's in Childhood/Special Education.
