Delhi, NY - The SUNY Delhi women's soccer team recorded a 4-1 victory over Vermont State Johnson in their second meeting this season.
In the first matchup between the two sides, the Badgers would get the better of the Broncos, winning by a score of 2-0. Delhi would be destined to flip the script in their rematch at home. Junior captain Kailey Leach would get things started for the Broncos, drawing a penalty kick early in the first half and slotting it home to take the 1-0 lead. The Badgers would respond almost immediately when Riann Fortin would sub on and score her third goal of the season. In even quicker fashion, the Broncos would have an answer of their own just two minutes later when first-year Esterline Carlson would score her fifth goal of the year. In the closing seconds before halftime junior Shaniyah Myers launched a 30-yard shot that empathically found the back of the net, putting Delhi up 3-1 at the break.
Delhi would control the majority of the second half, finishing the day outshooting the Badgers 17 to 14. First-year Camelia Cruz would put on the finishing touches with a shot from distance, recording her first collegiate goal on an assist from sophomore Riley Schmidt.
The Broncos move to 8-4, 2-1 in conference play and will next face Mt. St. Vincent away on Oct. 19 at 3 p.m.
