Delhi finishes season in style; sweeping NAC opponents SUNY Canton

Delhi, NY – Delhi wrapped up their regular season with a doubleheader sweep over conference opponents SUNY Canton at home. They took home the first game on a walk-off in the seventh inning to defeat the Roo's 5-4 before taking the second game in five innings, winning 12-3.

The Broncos (6-31,2-9) end their season ranked fourth in the North Atlantic Conference West Division and will not be moving on to the playoffs. Before the second game, two seniors, Kayla Beers and Katelynn Rose were honored as it was their final home games. Both players played for at least four years and have significantly impacted the program.

How it Happened:

Game One: Delhi 5 | Canton 4

The green and gold put the first points on the board as Lauren Zecca singled in Rhianna Iglesias. Canton responded with three runs in the top of the third to take the lead. The Broncos responded immediately, as senior Katelynn Rose drove in her counterpart Beers.

Delhi left it late, scoring a run in the final three innings to take the win. After the Roo's added a fourth run in the fourth to take a 4-2 lead. After entering the bottom of the seventh with the score tied, they would put two people on base before Gabriella Narcisse bunted and forced a throwing error for the walk-off.

Eight different batters would collect a hit as everyone helped secure their first conference win of the season. Rose continued her momentum from her previous complete game and pitched all seven innings with five strikeouts.

Game Two: Delhi 12 | Canton 3

The Broncos had a huge first inning, driving in five runs as Sindey Cooper drove in the first two runs with a single to the left side and Narcisse would then knock in two runs as the left fielder couldn't come up with her ball. Lauren Zecca would then drive in Narcisse to bring their lead to 5-1.

In the second inning, Delhi played strong small ball, scoring two runs off a passed ball and a wild pitch. Canton rallied in the third to grab two more runs but their day would be done there. It was all green and gold as they added three runs in the third and two more in the fourth. Roselyn Monks started the scoring run with an RBI single before Danielle Seymour doubled to drive in another. Beers would cap off the inning with an RBI groundout giving Delhi a 10-3 lead.

Monks would add on insurance runs in the fourth with a two-RBI single before the Delhi defense shut the Roo's down in five. Seymour pitched all five frames, only giving up two earned runs.

The Broncos' 37 total games through 2023 are the most games the team has played in the NCAA era.

What's Next:

Delhi will miss the North Atlantic Conference playoffs as they finish in the fourth spot in the West Division.
