Softball drops two close games on third day of the Gene Cusic Classic

Naples, FL - Delhi softball had an early start to their third day in a row of doubleheaders down at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic, starting at 9:00 AM with a close 7-5 loss to Nazareth College and finishing it off with another tight loss to Rutgers-Newark 3-2. The Broncos will have one day of rest on Wednesday before two more doubleheaders on Thursday and Friday.

In the first game, Delhi started off slow, scoring their first run in the third inning off a Sydney Cooper RBI to make it 5-1. After struggling to get the bats going all game the Broncos would make a late push, scoring three runs in the final inning off a Katelynn Rose R.B.I. single and some smart baserunning. The momentum swing wouldn't be enough as the Golden Flyers would then shut the door. Lauren Zecca had a great offensive game with three hits in four plate appearances.

Their second game was even more thrilling, going down to the final out. Delhi scored two runs to tie the game in the fifth inning but with a runner on and a chance to even it up again in the seventh inning, the Bronco's rally fell short. Sophomores Sydney Cooper and Danielle Seymour led the way for the green and gold with solid games. Cooper had two hits in her four plate appearances while senior Danielle Seymour pitched the whole game, only giving up three runs with two strikeouts.

Delhi will get one day of rest before their next doubleheader in Florida. They start with MCLA at 9:00 AM and then take on Western Connecticut at 1:00 PM on March 16th.
