Softballs splits doubleheader at Cobleskill

Cobleskill, NY - Delhi softball was back in-action Tuesday afternoon for a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader with SUNY Cobleskill. They would split the games with the Fighting Tigers. dropping their third conference game and first of the day 7-3 before putting an end to their skid with a strong, all-around performance in game two; winning 5-1.

The Broncos (4-31,0-9) sit tied with SUNY Canton at the bottom of the NAC West Division with three conference games left between the two.

How it Happened:

Game One: Delhi 3 | Cobleskill 7

Both teams would start game one slowly, only combining for two hits through the first two innings. Delhi would take the lead in the top of the third inning off doubles from Riley Martin and Danielle Seymour. The lead would be lost when Cobleskill would tally a 3-run third inning. Seymour would double again to start things off in the fifth and the green and gold would have runners at 2nd and 3rd with one out but would not be able to cut into the lead.

They would trail 6-1 going into the 6th inning. Lauren Zecca would pick up another double for Delhi to begin the inning followed by Martin's second double of the game. Kayla Beers singled both runners in next to cut the deficit by two. Seymour would then add a single for her third hit, but runners would again be stranded on 2nd and 3rd to end the inning. A run by the Fighting Tigers in the bottom of the 6th would conclude the scoring.

Katelynn Rose and Seymour split pitching duties; Rose went the first 4.1 innings and Seymour tossed the final 1.2 frames.

Game Two: Delhi 5 | Cobleskill 1

Delhi would get things started with a run in the 2nd inning in game two; on their way back to the win column. Roselynn Monks would double and Zecca singled in the RBI. A fielder's choice, error and a Beers single would load the bases, but they could not capitalize on the opportunity.

Rose was cruising on the mound as she would get Cobleskill to go down in order through the first three innings, along with the 5th and 6th innings. The offense would back her up as they opened the game up in the sixth inning. The first two batters would reach base and some small ball by Gabriella Narcisse moved both runners into scoring position. Martin would then single in a runner followed by a Beers RBI single. Delhi would single for the third straight time, this time for the red-hot Seymour who scored Martin and Beers to lead 5-0. The Fighting Tigers managed back-to-back two-out doubles in the bottom of the 7th but would get no closer.

Rose pitched all 7 innings and picked up the victory for Delhi while only giving up one earned run.
