Softball's bats jumped on the Express: scoring 23 runs in a doubleheader sweep

Aurora, NY - The Delhi softball team traveled upstate to play Wells College in their first doubleheader after their opening tournament in Flordia. They would go on to sweep the Express, winning the first game 10-2 in six innings and the second game 13-0 in five innings.

The Bronco's (3-9) bats and pitching combined for a terrific day for the green and gold, allowing only two earned runs while driving in 23 total runs in the sweep. Sophomore Sidney Cooper had an outstanding day in the batter's box with six hits and six runs batted in.

Game One: SUNY Delhi 10 - Wells College 2

The Broncos put two runs on the board in the first inning after sophomore Roselyn Monks sparked the bats with a leadoff single to left field. She would work around the bases, capitalizing on two Wells throwing errors to score the first run.

It would be back and forth in the early innings with Wells College answering back with runs in the first and second inning to tie the game. Delhi would knock in a run in the third and then use a big fourth inning to stretch the lead to 7-2. Sidney Cooper, Kayla Beers and Monks would all drive in a run with Beers smacking a double deep to right field for her second extra-base hit of the game.

Monks would end with three hits in four plate appearances while Beers and Cooper added on two hits each. The trio combined for nine of the team's 10 runs.

Senior Katelynn Rose had a great outing on the mound, pitching out of numerous jams and racking up four strikeouts. She shut down the Express offense, only giving up two earned runs facing 25 batters through seven frames.

Game Two: SUNY Delhi 13 - Wells College 0

Once again the Broncos jumped out the gates, scoring two in the first inning as Sidney Cooper and Danielle Seymour both drove in a run with RBI singles.

Freshman Miah Hamm would knock in her first run in the green and gold in the second inning when she drove in freshman teammate Gabriella Narcisse. The two rookies sparked a four-run inning for Delhi in which they scored three runs on a two-out rally.

Cooper, Monks and Beers would drive in another pair of runs in the third inning, stretching the lead to 10-0. Through both games, this trio combined for 16 of the team's runs.

Delhi added on three more in the top of the fourth and fifth inning with Narcisse and Hamm picking up their first collegiate multi-hit performance.

The Broncos were once again dominant on the mound with Danielle Seymour pitching five shutout innings, allowing only four hits with one strikeout. It was truly a complete game from the team as they outhit the Express 18-4 and had no errors on the day.

Cooper ended up with a four-hit, 4-RBI performance in her four plate appearances. While Hamm had a breakout game in her first year, knocking in two runs with four hits in her four at-bats.

The Broncos will jump right back on the road with a doubleheader against Marywood on March 29th at 3:00 and 5:00 PM.
