CANTON, N.Y. (January 23, 2018) – The SUNY Delhi men's basketball team hit a rough patch at SUNY Canton Tuesday evening, falling to the Roos in a close 68-65 contest. On a night where the Broncos shot just 34.3 percent (24-for-70) and were outrebounded, 57-37, Delhi held as much as a ten-point lead early in the second half. They found themselves, however, trailing in the final minutes and were unable to catch up.

The Broncos made it a close contest until the end. With Delhi ahead, 60-59, with 2:01 to play, Canton went in front on a Andrew Fitch layup, and followed up with a Danny Santana 3-pointer to extend its lead to 64-60 with 54 seconds remaining. Jordan Fragale would hit a pair of free throws to chip into Canton's lead, and behind, 65-62, Saquan Goland's layup was blocked by Fitch and rebounded by Adrian Williams to put the Roos up by two possessions. Fragale would hit another three before time expired, but time had run out on Delhi's comeback hopes.

William Knight led all scorers with 20 points, making six 3-pointers. Fragale finished with 14 points and five rebounds, while Payton Dean collected ten points and six boards. Stephen Harten contributed to the starting lineup with six rebounds and four assists, while Damon Denteh knocked down a pair of threes for nine points and Saquan Goland logging five points and ten rebounds.

The defeat has head coach Zack Thomsen's team at 13-12 with five games to play. Their next contest sees them traveling to SUNY Cobleskill on Wednesday for a road contest at 7:00 p.m. Ranked 14th in last week's USCAA Division II Coaches' Poll, the Broncos still have a chance to qualify for the USCAA Tournament. The men's Division II championship at Penn State Fayette will consist of ten teams, with Delhi eligible for one of the six at-large bids.
