Delhi Ends Beach Bash on Short End of Scoring Spree vs. FNU, Fragale Named All-Tournament Team

HIALEAH, Fla. (January 6, 2018) – In a high-scoring affair which saw both SUNY Delhi and Florida National each post 90-plus points and combining for 195 points, the Broncos came up short in a hard-fought 101-94 contest to close out the FNU Beach Bash. Delhi now stands at 9-9 and heads back up north, where its next contest will be on the road at College of St. Joseph Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.

While the Conquistadors led the whole game and had several stretches holding sizable leads, the Broncos kept FNU on their feet all night, including shrinking their lead to as little as two in the second half after trailing by as much as 16 points. Jordan Fragale and William Knight had 20-point nights Saturday, with Fragale netting 24 markers on his way to being named to the All-Tournament Team. Knight tallied 22 points, drilling four 3-pointers and grabbing six rebounds. Payton Dean finished with 12 points and nine rebounds, including six offensive, while Carlos Ithier registered 12 points, making 4-of-7 threes, and Jake Slobe gathering ten markers. Stephen Harten collected seven points and a game-best 11 rebounds.

Florida National's largest lead of the game came late in the first half, up 47-31 after a pair of Quantavis Hall free throws with 3:13 before halftime. The Broncos ended the half going on a 13-4 run to trail by just seven at 51-44 at halftime. Delhi continued its run into the second half by netting the next five points to trail only 51-49 with 15:37 to go. The Conquistadors continued on scoring to maintain the lead, only to see the Broncos make some shots of their own to stay in the game. Delhi trimmed the lead again down to two at 66-64 on a Knight three with 11:17 to play, and once more on a Fragale and-one layup at 69-67 with 10:25 remaining. A 12-3 FNU run would follow, though, to put the Conquistadors back in control, but not before both sides battled it out with 50 second-half points each to close out the game.

SUNY Delhi led, 40-31, in rebounds, 14-4 in second-chance points and 29-28 in bench points. The Broncos were outshot, with the Conquistadors shooting 56.5 percent (35-for-62) to Delhi's 45.7 percent (32-for-70). The Broncos made 12-of-26 from 3-point range and 18-of-25 from the free throw line, while the Conquistadors made 13-of-31 and 18-of-26, respectively.
