Men Hold Down Number-14 Spot in Latest USCAA Rankings

NORFOLK, Va. (January 25, 2018) – The USCAA released its sixth edition of the Division II men's basketball coaches rankings, with SUNY Delhi holding on to its number-14 spot for the third straight week with 222 points. The Broncos, now 14-12, head into the home stretch of their season winners of four of their last six and a chance to make the USCAA Tournament.

Since starting the year at 0-4, head coach Zack Thomsen's squad have four more games to play in hopes of locking up one of the six at-large bids for the national tournament, hosted by Penn State Fayette. The men's Division II championship will field ten teams, with the other four spots going to the three conference winners (HVIAC, PSUAC, YSCC) and host Fayette. The Broncos are 6-1 against NCAA Division III opponents, most recently a 69-57 win over SUNY Cobleskill on Wednesday. One of Delhi's most notable wins this year was an 88-84 victory over Berkeley NY in November, ending the three-time defending national champions' 56-game winning streak.

Sophomore forward Payton Dean was recently named the ACAA Player of the Week for the second time this year after scoring in double digits in each of a four-game span, helping the Broncos to wins in three of them. This included a career-best 22 points in a 92-74 win at Fisher on Jan. 17 and a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds in a 56-51 win over NCAA DIII Maine Presque Isle on Jan. 15. Dean picked up his eighth double-double of the season in the win at Cobleskill, logging 16 points and 14 boards.

Villa Maria jumped to the top spot in the rankings with 298 points, taking Berkeley NY off the top spot for the first time this year; the Knights ranked second with 296 points. NHTI was third with 283 points, while Penn State Greater Allegheny ranked fourth with 277 points and Central Penn fifth with 274 points.

Delhi will host Davis in its home season finale on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m., followed by road meetings at Alfred State on Feb. 10, Villa Maria on Feb. 11 and SUNY ESF Feb. 13.
