DELHI, N.Y. (November 21, 2017) – The stage appeared to be set for a late SUNY Delhi men's basketball victory over Maine Fort Kent Tuesday afternoon. Payton Dean nailed two clutch free throws to put the Broncos ahead, 74-73, with 9.2 seconds remaining. But with the Bengals under the boards with 4.3 ticks to go, an inbounds pass to MFK's Larry Wickett Jr. was well-defended by Delhi, but his adjustment layup found its way in the net to hand the Broncos a 75-74 defeat. The loss ended Delhi's three-game winning streak, as they enter Thanksgiving break with a 3-5 record.

Jake Slobe led the game with 19 points, burying 5-of-10 shots from 3-point range. Payton Dean, coming off USCAA and ACAA Athlete of the Week honors last week, had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Stephen Harten collected 14 points, eight boards and four assists, while Carlos Ithier had 14 points, draining 4-of-9 3-pointers in 30 minutes off the bench.

The Broncos battled back from an early 17-4 deficit to draw to within five at the half at 37-32. Delhi then got off to a hot start in the second half, in which they made several threes, courtesy of Ithier and Slobe, to take as much as a nine-point lead at 49-40 with 13:52 to go in the game. The Bengals worked their way back in, using a few threes of their own to regain the lead at 61-58 with 6:29 to play. Trailing, 73-68, heading into the final minute, Damon Denteh and Harten made the next two buckets to set up Dean's go-ahead trip to the line.

The Broncos finished 38.2 percent (26-for-68) from the floor, as the Bengals fared 42.6 percent (26-for-61). Delhi trailed just 41-38 on the boards, but led, 15-9, in points off turnovers as they forced MFK into 16 turnovers. Despite Ithier's performance off the pine, the Broncos were outscored, 32-21, in bench points.
