Women's Soccer 2022 Playoff Preview

The Women's soccer team heads into the NAC Tournament after another solid year under head coach Zach Ward. The Broncos finished the season (6-6-4) overall and (4-3-2) in conference play to take the top spot in the NAC West Division for the second year in a row.

The Green and Gold had a tough start to their season playing some stronger programs. After a long September in which they played six away games out of eight total contests, the Broncos found themselves with a (1-4-3) record. They went on to finish the season at .500 winning five matches in the month of October. With big wins in their final four matches of the regular season, including over three NAC opponents. They would outscore their final four opponents 15-1 with three clean sheets. The Broncos would also find themselves unbeaten through divisional play with a (4-0-1) record for the second year in a row.

Delhi finished the season with 28 goals in 16 games, led by senior Kelsey Innes's team-high 12 goals. They defended the new home turf well winning four games and only dropping one with three draws at Neil Riddell Field.

The Broncos also had numerous standouts this year on both the offensive and defensive sides. Innes was a key part of the Bronco's attack all year with 12 goals and four assists as she was one of three players to start every match. Through her impeccable season, she has broken records and set the tone for Delhi all year. In her second to last match of the season and her 10th goal, Innes became the Bronco's all-time leader in career points with 110, moving past Delhi Alumni Katie Herba's (16-18) 108. In her next match, she would go on to score two more goals and tie Bronco Alumni Katie Herba (2016-18) for most career goals with 46. She will still have the post-season to try and become the all-time goal-scoring leader, just needing one more. She would end her regular season as the NAC leader in game-winning goals, second in total goals, and third in both assists and points.

Other standouts include Delhi's keeper Andraya Hunt who led the NAC in total shutouts with seven, two more than second place. She started 15 matches, stopping 69 total shots for a .726 save average. Hunt was a big reason for getting the Broncos to the top spot of the NAC West again, as she let up zero goals in the final three matches.

Senior Olivia Curry also was key in the backline the whole season for the Broncos. She led the Broncos with Innes in total assists with five, good enough to tie for third in the NAC. She has some superb goal-saving tackles throughout the season and was Delhi's top defender. Senior Micayla Slattery was another standout Bronco for the regular season, recording six goals and three assists. She went on a tear through the back end of the season scoring six goals in six matches.

The Broncos will host fourth-seed NVU-Johnson in the NAC West Quarterfinal match on Saturday, October 29th at noon. They will be looking to get out of the NAC West Division this year after falling in the semi-finals last year 2-1. If they win in the quarterfinal matchup, they will host the winner of SUNY Poly and Cazenovia on Sunday, October 30th at noon.
