SUNY Delhi Women's Soccer Preview of 2022 Season

SUNY Delhi Women's Soccer is officially back as the student-athletes reported to their first training session today.

The energy is rising in Delhi, as the new turf sports complex is finished and ready to host the SUNY Delhi Women's soccer team's 2022 season.

Building off last year's successful season where the team finished (11-6, 7-1), only losing one conference match on the season. The Women, who were last year's West Division Finalists will look to keep the success going and be a force in the North Atlantic Conference.

Led by second-year head coach Zach Ward and 15 returners, Delhi looks to have a solid foundation to build off of. They will be joined by 14 newcomers to help solidify the strength of the overall squad.

"The excitement in the program for the 2022 season is really, high especially getting to open up our new facility, said Ward, "I'm looking forward to getting started with year two. I expect the blend of returners and newcomers to really push each other in training and build a competitive environment."

Key returners include Kelsey Innes who was 1st team All-NAC with seven goals and seven assists last season. As well as Reanen Goodspeed and Casey Bugbee who have proved to be consistent players on the field. Goodspeed started all 17 matches in the prior season and was awarded 2nd team All-NAC.

"We've got two scrimmages to put us through our paces and prepare us for Cortland to kick off the season. We'll have to navigate a September schedule that sees us play just two home matches," said Ward on the upcoming season, "But it does set us up for 6 home fixtures in October."

Important matches include their home opener and first time on the new turf on September 3rd when they host SUNY ESF at 2:30 PM. Foam fingers will be passed out to the fans in celebration of the new turf field complex.

Another key match is when Delhi hosts Geneva on Sept. 8th, when head coach Ward will take on his former high school player, head coach Kelsey Morrison.

You can't miss Homecoming Weekend either when the Broncos take on Cazenovia on October 1st. Or when they take on reigning conference champions, Maine Maritime on October 9th, where Ward spent three seasons as an assistant coach.
