Delhi Soccer Goes Down to The Wire Against Geneva, Ending in a 1-1 Tie

Delhi - The Broncos (1-1-2) went back and forth under the lights at Neil Riddell Field for the first time and ended the night with a tie. Delhi collected their second tie of the year after another tough matchup, this time coming against the visiting Golden Tornadoes.

The Broncos outlasted the Geneva attack as it went down to the final buzzer. Geneva posted 25 total shots with 12 on goal, forcing Delhi keeper, Andraya Hunt to make a season-high 11 saves. While the Broncos took their chances as well with 10 total shots. They had some quality chances but couldn't quite equalize in the end.

"Geneva was really well trained and disciplined. They made it really difficult to break them down and were strong on the counter-attack, said head coach Zach Ward, "We were able to strike back after conceding earlier in the match."

The Golden Tornadoes would be first to touch the back of the net, in the seventh minute. But it wouldn't take long for Delhi to respond, coming off a superb entry pass from Olivia Curry that found the feet of Kelsey Innes in the 23rd minute. Innes collected the ball and made a move around the keeper to level the game. She added another goal to her total, bringing her up to four in four games.

The Delhi defense really stepped up in the second half, shutting down Geneva's 15 shots in the half. There was a moment when the Golden Tornadoes thought they might have their second goal but it was blocked and cleared at the goal line.

"Both teams had second-half chances to win it," said Ward, "It was fun getting to coach against a former player of mine and I'm excited to see how Kelsey and Geneva fare the rest of the way."

The Broncos will now look forward to three consecutive away games. They will play Lycoming on September 11th, NVU-Johnson on September 17th and UMPI on the 25th. Then will return to Delhi on October 1st.
