Broncos Use Big Halftime Lead to Take Bounce Out of the Roos

CANTON, NY (February 11, 2022) – After picking up career win 100 earlier in the week, head coach Zach Thomsen tallied win number 101 in the Broncos penultimate regular season game, knocking off SUNY Canton 85-76 in a NAC divisional match-up. The win takes the Broncos to 18 wins on the season.

One may not have expected as entertaining of a game that it turned out to be after a slow start by both teams over the first 4 minutes of the game. Delhi took a small 6 to 4 lead to open the game before stretching it to 23 to 17 with under 8 minutes to play. The Broncos used a 20 to 8 run to close out the first half thus taking a 45 to 31 lead into the intermission.

The Broncos continued to slowly pull away and led by 21, 70 to 49, with just under ten minutes to go. The Roos of Canton were able to get back into the game, cutting the lead to 6 points with only 90 seconds left to go. A Mavenson Therneus layup with under a minute to go brought a Canton run to an end and along with efficient free throw shooting over the same stretch, victory for the team from Delhi was sealed.

On the offensive side, the Broncos got 4 starters into double-figures with Erhunosere Uwuigbe pouring in a game-high 29 points. Norman Wilson, Therneus, and Pablo Quinones all chipped in with 10 or more. Jacob Beach added 13 off the bench. Quinones grabbed 11 rebounds to give himself the only double-double for the night.

The Broncos will conclude their regular season play tomorrow afternoon with a trip to NVU-Johnson. NAC playoff seeding will be on the line. Tipping off at 1PM.
