Therneus Leads Broncos to Late Win

Therneus Leads Broncos to Late Win

DELHI, NY (January 18, 2022) - The Delhi men's Basketball team played host to Bard College at Maines Arena looking for their 11th win of the season.

The game was close all the way with Delhi's largest lead of five points coming just two and a half minutes into the game.  Bard road a very hot shooting performance into half time with a six point lead after hitting 59.3% from the floor in the first half.  Bard scored the first points of the second half to push their lead to eight points, which would be their largest of the game.

However, Delhi was able to create some momentum with an aggressive full court press.  They forced Bard into 26 turnovers that led to 32 points for the Broncos allowing them to get the game back to a tight one.  Leading the way throughout the game for Delhi was junior Mavenson Therneus who scored 31 points and added eight rebounds.

However, the big excitement took place in the last 1:15 of the game.  After senior Norman Wilson scored on a drive to the basket to give Delhi a two point lead, Bard responded with a basket of their own with 52 seconds left to tie the score.  On the ensuing Delhi possesion, Erhunosere Uwuigbe pulled back to back offensive rebounds converting the second one into a basket and a foul with 35 seconds left in the game.  His made free throw gave Delhi a three point advantage that proved to be too much for Bard to overcome.

The men will next travel to SUNY Poly on Friday January 21st for the first of two conference games between the teams.  With both teams sitting at 3-0 in conference play, the winner of this game will take the driver's seat in the NAC East division.
