DELHI, N.Y. (December 11, 2021) – Two NAC West wins in two days was just what the SUNY Delhi men's basketball team accomplished on Saturday, wrapping up their home division weekend series with a 69-54 win over SUNY Canton to improve to a 3-0 league record and 7-4 overall. The Broncos wrapped up their productive 2021 NAC stretch after defeating Northern Vermont Johnson, 73-61, Friday night and SUNY Cobleskill last Saturday in another home matchup, 95-76.

The visiting Roos were not to be taken lightly, keeping toe-for-toe as Delhi clung to a 48-44 lead with ten minutes remaining. The Broncos engaged the afterburners, so much as quadrupling their lead with two-and-a-half minutes to play at 66-50. This stretch was carried on a pair of threes from Pablo Quinones, who finished with a team-best 16 points, and six points from Mavenson Therneus, including a pair of dunks on fastbreak chances to cap off a 15-point afternoon. Norman Wilson contributed four of his nine points in this stretch as well.

Delhi netted a 10-0 lead in fastbreak points and used their 16-9 lead in offensive rebounds (45-42 overall) for a staggering 23-6 lead in second-chance points. The Broncos finished 36.8 shooting (28-of-76) to the Roos' 34.6 percent (18-of-52), but made their mark from long range, making 12-of-33 to Canton's 4-of-19 for a 24-point swing. The Roos did find an edge in the free throw battle, leading 14-of-19 to Delhi's 1-of-4.

Therneus added a team-best eight rebounds to his totals, as well as three steals, two assists, and one block. Lester McCarthy, Seth Keller, and Erhunosere Uwuigbe each made two 3-pointers for six total points apiece, with Uwuigbe also totaling five boards. Wilson and Barnes each contributed six rebounds, with Barnes totaling three points and a game-high eight assists.

Saturday marked the end of Head Coach Zack Thomsen's team's 2021 NAC slate, with one more non-conference matchup separating them from winter break at home against Bryant & Stratton Syracuse Friday, Dec. 17 at 7:00 p.m. The Broncos open the new year on the road at non-conference Morrisville State on Jan. 4 before resuming their NAC season with a weekend home stand against Maine Maritime and Thomas Jan. 8 and 9, respectively.
