Broncos Drop Home Matchup with Alfred University

DELHI, N.Y. (November 20, 2021) – The SUNY Delhi men's basketball team endured their second loss in the same week Saturday hosting a noteworthy Alfred University squad, coming up short in a 76-46 display. With both sides in a standstill through the first six-and-a-half minutes tied at 5-5, the Saxons pushed through with 14 straight points to set the path to victory. SUNY Delhi stands at 4-2, with just two more games separating them from their NAC season opener with SUNY Cobleskill on Dec. 4.

Another factor to the win was AU's sharp shooting. The visitors posted a 42.4 field goal percentage (28-of-66), making 10-of-27 threes, while the Broncos had their lowest shooting performance of the season, making 23.4 percent (15-of-64) with just 4-of-31 three-point attempts made. The Saxons controlled the boards by a 57-35 margin and leveraged their game down low with a 26-6 lead in points in the paint. Delhi held the lead just once to start the game, ahead 5-2 on a three from Pablo Quinones and a jumper from Norman Wilson, their only made field goals of the game.

Mavenson Therneus was Delhi's lone scorer in double digits, posting 16 points with six rebounds, making 12 of his points in the opening half. Quinones and Jacob Beach tied for the team lead with seven rebounds, with Quinones adding four blocks. Wilson and Lester McCarthy each had six points, with Wilson going a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line.

The Broncos have two games wrapped around Thanksgiving Break, beginning with a road trip to Bard Tuesday at 7:00 p.m., then a home matchup versus Williams Sunday, Nov. 28 at 3:00 p.m.
