Men Get Big Win Over SUNY Poly on Senior Day

DELHI, NY (February 5, 2022) - The SUNY Delhi men had a lot on the line in their game against SUNY Poly on Saturday.  After losing by 20 points to Poly two weeks ago the team needed to win in order to pull into a tie for first in the division and keep their hopes of hosting that NAC West tournament on campus.  The game also marked the return to campus of the Broncos former coach ROb Shoener, now coaching the team at SUNY Poly and senior recognition for Nicholas Escabi, Erhunosere Uwuigbe and Norman Wilson.  The team celebrated their seniors in a fitting fashion, playing one of their best games of the year for a 73-54 win.

The team jumped out to an early lead with some great shooting.  After missing their first two shots of the game, the Broncos made five straight and nine of the next 10 attempts to jump out to a 12 point lead at 19-7.  However, the Wildcats clawed their way back to tie the game at 24 points a piece with 3:26 left in the first half.  However, Delhi scored seven unanswered points to finish the half going into the break with a 31-24 lead.  From there, the teams defensive pressure was able to create turnovers and unrest in the Poly offense, allowing Delhi to slowly extend the lead.  The Broncos were up 11 with 10 minute left and 14 with five minutes remaining.  The lead grew to its largest when Dominic Testani hit a three pointer from the top of the key to put the Broncos ahead 73-50.

Senior Norman Wilson led the team on his senior day, scoring a game high 20 points and chipping in four rebounds, four assists and two steals.  Backing up Wilson, was Mavenson Therneus with 16 points and 5 rebounds.  Uwuigbe also put together a well rounded stat line on his day of recognition, scoring nine points and adding five rebounds, five steals, three assists and a blocked shot.

Next up for the men is a trip to NVU-Lyndon on Monday before another trip north to finish the regular season with back to back games against Canton and NVU- Johnson on Friday and Saturday.
