USCAA Announces Suspension of 2020 Division I Basketball Championships

UNIONTOWN, Pa. (March 12, 2020) - The United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA), in conjunction with host site Pennsylvania State University Fayette, has announced the suspension of the remaining rounds of the 2020 USCAA Division I Basketball National Tournament due to ongiong concerns of the COVID-19 virus.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM USCAA:

The USCAA, in cooperation with Penn State University Fayette, has suspended its 2020 USCAA Men's and Women's Division I Basketball National Championships.

The USCAA attempted to make adjustments throughout the tournament including reducing allowable attendance, the presence of sanitization stations throughout the facility, and eliminating consolation games.  However, the association deemed the threat of COVID-19 too serious to continue through Saturday.  "It is in the best interest of our competitors, staff, and fans to suspend these championships and reevaluate how we continue through the spring based on the reports from experts," states USCAA Executive Director Matt Simms.  In 15 years, this is the most gut wrenching decision we have had to make, but it was done with the health and safety of our people in mind."

The USCAA will send recommendations to the Board of Directors regarding continuation of winter and spring sports, determination of winter champions (if necessary) and make further releases to the membership and public in the coming week.
