COBLESKILL, N.Y. (January 19, 2020) – Senior forward Payton Dean (Harpursville, NY / Harpursville) became the fourth Bronco in SUNY Delhi men's basketball history, and second this season, to reach 1,000 career points Sunday to give Delhi another reason to celebrate a 76-52 road win at SUNY Cobleskill. Needing three points to reach the landmark entering the game, Dean doubled down with six points, and flashed his rebounding prowess with a game-high 13 boards as the Broncos posted a 56-31 edge on the glass. Head coach Zack Thomsen's team earned their third straight win in dominating fashion to improve to 13-7 on the season and 6-2 in the month of January.

Dean joined teammate Justin Daoud on the 1K career scoring list, less than two weeks after Daoud reached the milestone at Northern Vermont Johnson on Jan. 6. Daoud posted a double-double against the Fighting Tigers with 15 points and ten rebounds, with his 538 points his first two years at Herkimer C.C. and 520 points the past two seasons at SUNY Delhi giving him 1,058 points for his career. Dean stands with 1,003 career points and 813 career rebounds, becoming the first 1,000-point scorer as a four-year student-athlete at SUNY Delhi. Dean and Daoud are in the elite company of Stephen Hutchinson (1968-70) and Robert Sparks (1995-97) on Delhi's 1,000-point list.

Glenn Butler led the Broncos' scoring with 17 points, going 5-for-10 from the field and a perfect 7-for-7 on free throws. Norman Wilson made 3-of-4 threes off the bench on his way to 11 points, while Mavenson Therneus registered nine points with six rebounds. Jordan Fragale logged six points with four assists, as William Knight hit on a pair of 3-pointers for six markers.

The Broncos shot 40.8 percent (29-for-71) from the floor, made 7-of-24 threes and a perfect 11-of-11 on free throws, compared to Cobleskill's 31.6 percent (18-for-57), 5-of-25, and 11-of-22, respectively. Delhi controlled the game in the paint by a 40-22 margin, and grabbed 18 offensive rebounds for a 13-5 lead in second-chance points.

With the exception of a Fighting Tigers layup to open the game, the Broncos took control at the outset and led by as much as 19 points in the first half for a 32-16 lead at halftime. After netting just two points in the opening half, Dean's milestone basket began the Broncos' 44-point second half, where they widened their gap by as many as 28 points before the final buzzer.

The win gave Delhi its third victory in as many seasons over Cobleskill for a 3-0 lead in the all-time series since the two former junior college foes rekindled their rivalry as NCAA Division III institutions. Sunday's game also marked a preview of future conference rivals, as Delhi and Cobleskill will both join the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) beginning next season.

Dean and Daoud may not be the only 1,000-point scorers for the Broncos this season, as Knight and Fragale are also within striking distance of the four-digit precipice. Knight moved up to 984 points, while Fragale stands with 949 points.

Coach Thomsen's team has two games over the next three days, heading back out east to face Albany Pharmacy on Monday at 2:00 p.m., then welcoming Clarks Summit to Floyd L. Maines Arena Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
