Fragale, Daoud, Therneus Finish Historic Season as USCAA All-Americans

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (March 17, 2020) – The SUNY Delhi men's basketball team's trip to the USCAA National Tournament was met with national praise as three Broncos earned USCAA All-American honors. Senior guard Jordan Fragale (Baldwinsville, NY / C.W. Baker) was named to the First Team. Senior guard Justin Daoud (Yonkers, NY / Palisade Prep) was accorded to the Second Team. Sophomore guard/forward Mavenson Therneus (Spring Valley, NY / Spring Valley) earned distinction as an Honorable Mention.

This marks Fragale's third straight USCAA All-American selection and first nod to the First Team. He was an Honorable Mention recipient his sophomore and junior seasons. Fragale was also recently named the American Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) Player of the Year, while he and Therneus garnered First Team All-ACAA honors.

The Broncos had their best season under fifth-year head coach Zack Thomsen with a 21-7 record, earning the program's first 20-win season since 2013-14 and first ever in four-year athletics. SUNY Delhi captured its second straight ACAA Championship three weeks ago with convincing wins over Valley Forge, 118-70, in the semifinals and Pine Manor, 94-42, in the title game. They earned the third seed for the USCAA Division I National Tournament and defeated six-seed Holy Family in the first round on Thursday, 70-56, before play was suspended. The Broncos ended the season with 11 straight wins. In addition, Daoud, Fragale, and fellow seniors Payton Dean and William Knight reached 1,000 career points over the course of the year.

The USCAA Division I Men's Basketball end-of-season awards were presented at the league's pre-tournament festivities on Wednesday during a ceremonial brunch. The USCAA then held its Skills Competition that evening, where SUNY Delhi sophomore Glenn Butler (White Plains, NY / White Plains) won the Slam Dunk Competition.

Fragale was a DIII News Preseason All-American Honorable Mention choice entering his senior season, and followed through finishing with a team-best 4.8 assists per game on 134 total assists, while garnering 10.5 ppg. with three 20-point games and one 30-point game. He received a spot on the ACAA All-Tournament Team after combining for 24 points, 13 assists, and 2-for-2 from long range over the two championship games. One of his biggest highlights of the season came in Delhi's regular-season finale at Pine Manor on Feb. 15, capping off a late Broncos' comeback rally with the go-ahead basket with 2.3 seconds remaining for an 83-82 win. Delhi erased an eight-point deficit with six-and-a-half minutes remaining, with Fragale's efforts earning him USCAA and ACAA Player of the Week honors. Some of Fragale's other highlights included scoring a career-high 34 points in a 112-105 overtime win at Penn College Tech. on Nov. 17 and making the game-winning free throw in the closing seconds to beat Centenary, 96-95, on Nov. 23. He reached the 1,000 career-point milestone on Feb. 12 against Bryant & Stratton Syracuse. The Baldwinsville, NY native finished his career with 1,065 points and 656 career assists.

Daoud started all 28 games for the Broncos this season, leading the team with 12.0 ppg. and second with 8.1 rpg. He was named the ACAA Tournament MVP after netting 28 points with 13 rebounds in the semifinals against Valley Forge, making 11-of-13 from the field, then delivering nine points with four rebounds in the championship versus Pine Manor the following day. Those performances also led him to USCAA Athlete of the Week honors. Daoud's additional highlights included tying his career best with 31 points in the team's early-season win at Cazenovia on Nov. 19 and becoming the first of Delhi's four 1,000 career-point scorers this season by reaching the landmark in a 85-61 win at Northern Vermont Johnson on Jan. 6. Daoud played his first two seasons at Herkimer County Community College from 2016 to 2018, in which the Generals won back-to-back NJCAA Division III National Championships. Along with the Broncos' back-to-back ACAA titles, this gives Daoud the distinction of winning a team championship all four years of college. His four-year career totals include 1,155 points and 683 rebounds.

Therneus ended a terrific sophomore campaign ranking third on the Broncos with 10.4 ppg. and 5.7 rpg. He played in every contest with 16 starts, starting in all but one game during the Broncos' 2020 leg of the season. He logged three 20-point games and four double-doubles. Therneus posted a career-best 21 points in two games this year, the first in the team's 96-95 win over Centenary on Nov. 23 and the latter in an 85-61 win at Northern Vermont Johnson on Jan. 6, shooting 10-of-15 from the floor. His remaining 20-point game was an even 20 markers in a 104-72 win over Pratt on Feb. 1. The Spring Valley, NY native scored 12 points in each of the Broncos' ACAA Tournament games.
