ALBANY, N.Y. (January 20, 2020) – The SUNY Delhi Men's Basketball 1,000 Points Club has now grown by three new members in the last two weeks, as it was William Knight's (Valley Stream, NY / Valley Stream South) turn on Monday by dropping 16 points for an even 1,000 for his career in an 86-68 win at Albany College of Pharmacy. The Broncos concluded a busy winter break with their fourth straight win to improve to 14-7, including 7-2 in January with one game remaining in the month.

Delhi's win Monday bolstered its bid for March's USCAA Division I National Tournament, as the Broncos are now 2-for-2 against USCAA opponents this season, coupled with their win over Maine Fort Kent earlier this month. The men were ranked fifth in the latest USCAA Coaches Poll, with the national tournament selecting eight at-large bids. The victory over the Panthers also marked the end of a busy winter break for the Broncos, having played 11 games dating back to Dec. 29.

Needing 16 points to reach the milestone, just one point below his season high, Knight rose to the occasion, including making four 3-pointers, while unselfishly helping the team scoring with five assists. The senior guard made his mark just one day after senior forward Payton Dean reached 1,000 points at SUNY Cobleskill, and exactly two weeks following senior guard Justin Daoud's four-digit moment at Northern Vermont Johnson on Jan. 6. Fellow senior Jordan Fragale is closing in on 1,000 points, as well, dropping 13 points Monday to bring his career total to 962 points. Delhi's 1,000 points club consists of five members: Knight, Dean, Daoud, Robert Sparks (1995-97), and Stephen Hutchinson (1968-70).

Mavenson Therneus notched a double-double, registering a game-high 17 points and 12 rebounds. Glenn Butler recorded ten points with seven rebounds, while Norman Wilson dropped a pair of threes on his way to ten points. Carlos Ithier hit on two 3-pointers as he totaled eight points.

Delhi shot 39.2 percent (31-for-79), making 10-of-35 threes and 14-of-18 free throws, while ACPHS made 39.0 percent (23-for-59) 9-of-20, and 13-of-18, respectively. The Broncos again controlled the rebounding phase by a 54-33 margin, including 22 offensive rebounds. The green and gold took hold of the game from the opening basket, leading 42-27, at halftime and pumping its lead to as much as 27 points.

Head coach Zack Thomsen's team returns home this Wednesday to face Clarks Summit at 7:00 p.m. The Broncos then round out the regular season with three games in February: home against Pratt Feb. 1 at 3:00 p.m., home versus Bryant & Stratton Liverpool Feb. 12 at 7:00 p.m., and away at Pine Manor Feb. 15 at 3:00 p.m. Delhi is set to host the ACAA Tournament, with the semifinals set for Saturday, Feb. 29 and the championship on Sunday, Mar. 1. Selections for the USCAA National Tournament will be announced Mar. 3, with the tournament running from Mar. 12-15 at Penn State Fayette.
