Delhi Battles Back in Two Sets to Collect First Win at Home

Delhi - The Broncos (2-5) grab their second win of the season in four sets against Bard University on Friday night. After starting the season slow with four losses the Broncos have regrouped and won two of their last three.

The Broncos won the first set by two points after a close battle after coming back from a 17-11 deficit. Sage Renneisen had a great first set with six kills, she would end her night tying her season-high 13.

Delhi then dropped the second set 25-21 but never looked back taking the final two sets 25-21 and 25-23. In the third set, they would end on a 15-7 run to overcome a 15-10 Bard lead. The Broncos were in complete control for the final set though, never letting their lead slip after going up 1-0. In three of the four sets, the Broncos had over 10 kills with a high of 15.

Stephanie Burke led the way on the defense for the Broncos with a season-high six blocks. Jaiden Venute continued to serve up the assists with 27 on the night, almost racking up more than Bard's 30 team assists. Katelyn Babcock and Stephanie Burke both were active in the Delhi attack with eight kills each.

The Bronco's next match will be against Utica on Monday, September 19th at 7 pm at home in Delhi.

Comments from head coach Beau Bracchy: "We dug ourselves a bit of a hole in sets one and three tonight, but we were able to come back and finish each of those sets on a strong note.  We finished with a 7-1 run in set one and a 15-7 run in set three.  Bard served tough all night, as evidenced by their 12 service aces, and they were able to keep us out of the system more than we'd like. I did like our overall balance as a team and really loved the spark we got from our junior captain, Katelyn Babcock.  She had a lot of good things to say during our team timeouts, and I thought the group really responded and fed off her energy."
