Broncos Drop Season Opener to MCLA

DELHI - The SUNY Delhi Women's Volleyball team dropped their first match of the year in a tough five-set battle with MCLA.

Every set went down to the wire as both teams never failed to score over 20 points until the final set where Delhi fell 10-15.

The Broncos got off to a great start at the beginning, taking the first set 25-21. Their hitting percentage in the first set was a game-high .279 percent. But in the second set, MCLA came back and tied the match with 13 kills. Delhi answered that set with an impressive defensive showing to pull ahead 2-1. The Broncos then dropped the final two sets but never gave up fighting till the very end.

"I liked our energy and competitiveness tonight. With only 2 returning starters from last season's squad, we had a lot of new players that stepped onto the court for the first time together in a regular season match, said head coach Beau Bracchy, "We worked hard and made solid progress tonight."

Stephanie Burke started her season on a high note, leading the Broncos with 16 kills and 19 digs. Other Broncos who played well were Sage Renneisen who added 12 kills while Rebecca Heuler scooped up 18 digs. Katelyn Babcock also added four blocks up front.  The team ended with a game-high 55 kills but struggled to serve with 15 serving errors.

The Broncos will look ahead to their next match which will be on the road against Husson and WPI in a tri-match on September 3rd.
