SUNY Delhi Men's Soccer is Back and Ready for Action

The start of a new Men's soccer season began today with the team's first practice. As the student-athletes get settled in back in Delhi, there is a lot of excitement surrounding the upcoming season.

With a new home in the brand-new turf sports complex, the Broncos will be able to build off last year and continue to improve. This will be the team's and head coach E.J. Reutemann's second official season in Division III soccer.

With 10 losses last year separated by just one goal, there is plenty of optimism coming into the new year.

"With the addition of 17 new faces and a core group who has set a standard, said Reutemann, "we believe the culture that the core group has created puts us in a great place to help us compete on day one."

The 13 returning athletes include standouts, goalkeeper John Walch and defender Cesar Cruz-Vasquez. Both seniors will have an impactful role on the squad, especially working to keep goals out of the Delhi net.

They are going to be aided by a large new group of 17 newcomers. It won't be long till they get into the action as their first scrimmage is scheduled for August 21st.

"We will start our campaign with some extremely tough tests in scrimmages against nationally ranked SUNY Cortland and SUNY Oneonta, Reutemann said, "The hope is that they prepare us for the tough non-conference contests that lay ahead as we head into our NAC play."

The team will get the chance to enjoy their new turf field as they have 11 home games this year. Be sure to attend the official ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new field on September 3rd. When the Broncos take on Morrisville State at noon. As well as the Alumni Weekend on October 1st against Cazenovia at 1 PM.

Then they close out the regular season at home in a big way. When they face last year's North Atlantic Conference Champions, SUNY Poly, on October 15th.

Make sure to be at the grand opening of the new turf sports complex before their first match on September 1st at 4 PM. Celebratory foam fingers will be passed out to the first 100 Delhi fans!
