Once Again, SUNY Delhi Comes From Behind and Steals a 2-1 Win from Future NAC Conference Opponents Morrisville State

Delhi- The Broncos remain unbeaten after a physical match at Neil Riddell Field. The Broncos waited to the second half again to get on the scoreboard but didn't let up till they left with the win.

After conceding a goal in the first half to a well-placed shot off a free kick right outside the box, Delhi went into half once again trailing 1-0.

"Today was a really challenging test for our group. Morrisville gave us a lot of problems to try and solve in the first half. I thought we did a good job in the second half adjusting and pushing through some tired legs to find those answers," said head coach E.J. Reutemann, "Anthony Cueller provided what proved to be a moment of brilliance with his diving header and led as a captain should do in those big moments."

But just like their first match, the Broncos came back in the second half with a revamped energy. They started off quickly getting to Morrisville's side with Erik Klezcoski getting a solid shot attempt in the first four minutes.

The momentum really started to go in Delhi's favor after a Morrisville player was given a red card and sent off. The game was a back-and-forth physical battle with five total cards given out, two going to Delhi players.

It took only five minutes being up a man until a beautiful ball was put into the 18 by Derek Fuentes from midfield, slicing up the Mustang's defense. It was met by an unbelievable diving header by Anthony Cuellar that sent the ball into the left corner and tied up the match.

The Broncos continued to keep on pressing. As the match minutes ticked by, the energy kept rising until the 86 minute when they broke through to pull ahead. With another incredible Delhi effort, Julio Fernandez-Suarez collected the ball in the box and fired a low bouncing shot that made its way to the back of the net. Freshman, Matt Serrao set up the play by collecting his blocked cross off a free kick and returning it back into the box for his second assist of the year.

"I thought after that the group came back to doing what they needed to do to close out the game," said coach Reutemann, "It's great to get the result we wanted in the past two games but we will need to change the slow starts in order to put together a total ninety-minute performance against Elmira on Wednesday."

Fernandez-Suarez's goal sealed the win for Delhi at the end, but their defense really stepped up to keep them in the match. Vaughn Bottex was the heart of Delhi's stout defense today, coming up with several critical tackles to stop the Mustangs in their tracks. With the team clicking on offense and defense, scoring four goals in the first two games, the Broncos are exciting to watch and look to be a threat against anyone who steps on the pitch.

The now (2-0) Broncos will now look forward to hosting Elmira on Wednesday, September 7th at 4 PM.
