The Broncos Fall to SUNY Poly 3-1 on Saturday at Home

Delhi, NY - The Broncos (8-5-2,4-2-2) took on NAC West Division opponents SUNY Poly losing 3-1 in a tough windy battle at Neil Riddell Field. Delhi now remains in second place in the division with one remaining conference game of the season. The Broncos took a moment before the game to honor seniors Tucker Garrett, Kevin Sikorski, Cesar Cruz-Vasquez and Justin Hullanca in their final home game at Delhi.

The Wildcats would strike first off a penalty kick in the 9th minute to grab an early 1-0 lead. They kept the pressure up, but Delhi's defense had answers, with Vaughn Bottex and keeper Jonathan Walch able to keep the deficit at one. The Broncos would go into the half trailing 1-0.

"It just wasn't our time out there today. We made a lot of decisions collectively that had us searching for answers. We were relentless and battled both the very tough opponent and the aggressive winds," said head coach E.J. Reutemann, "The players continued to give more in the second half but unfortunately, it was not enough on the day."

The second half began as the wind became a massive factor. The Wildcats would net another goal to go up 2-0 in the 49th minute as a shot would take an unlucky Bronco bounce. The Green and Gold would fire back as Michael Williams Jr would score in the 83rd minute assisted by Sinas Bouzikos. Williams Jr., the NAC scoring leader, is the first player in the conference to grab 10 goals in the year.

The Broncos threatened right after their first goal but unfortunately, the Poly keeper made a few great plays to keep Delhi at bay. After some back and forth, Poly would snag one more goal in the 89th minute to put their lead back up to two.

"As our seniors played their last game at home today, I want to highlight the careers of Tucker Garrett, Kevin Sikorski Cesar Cruz-Vasquez and Justin Huallanca. These four have been instrumental in the turnaround of the program over the last two years," said Reutemann, "They all have added tremendous value on the field but more importantly, as leaders for our younger players to model what it means to continuously do the right things. We know they are going to accomplish so much in their time after soccer and we are thrilled for them to one day be ambassadors of our program."

Delhi will close out its regular season with a conference matchup against SUNY Canton on the road on Saturday, October 22nd.
