Men's Soccer Ends Road Trip with a 2-1 Conference Win over UMPI

Delhi - The Delhi Broncos (6-2-1, 2-0-1) end their two-game conference road trip with one win and a tie after defeating the Owls Sunday. The Broncos found a late goal in the 86th to secure their sixth win on the year.

Michael Williams Jr. got the game started early, scoring his 6th goal of the year off a penalty kick in the 4th minute. It was a physical battle through both halves with 26 total fouls between the teams.

UMPI would equalize off a penalty kick in the 65th minute tying the game at one score each. But in the second half, the Broncos wouldn't go down without a fight as nine of their 14 total shots would come in the second. They would find their game-winner late as midfielder Erik Kleczkowski scored from a free kick in the 86th minute to give the Broncos the victory. The Delhi back line again played solidly, holding the Owls to just one shot on goal in the second.

The Broncos will now start a six-game home stand. Their first matchup will be against Hartwick on Wednesday the 28th at 7 pm before they start a streak of conference matches.

Comments from head coach E.J. Reutemann: "This weekend proved to be a battle of attrition, fighting both the opposition and the swirling winds up north in Maine. I thought today we were missing the finer details of the game that are imperative when playing on slower grass surfaces. Sometimes when you continue to furiously try any and every way to score but keep hitting roadblocks, you just need someone to make a play. Erik Kleczkowski simply did that for us today with his free-kick goal and a belief from the rest of us that a winning moment was coming."
