Delhi Takes Care of Business at Home Beating Cobleskill 2-0

Delhi, NY - The Broncos (8-3-1, 4-0-1) continue to tear through their NAC opponents remaining unbeaten through five matches. Delhi remains at the top of the NAC West Division with 16 conference points, double the amount of the second place SUNY Poly.

"It was one of those days I think that you spend creating such a buildup for an entire day," said head coach E.J. Reutemann, "A home conference game under the lights, a boisterous cheering crowd and somehow just come out without energy trying to adjust to the slick surface."

The Broncos started out quickly as NAC scoring leader Michael Williams Jr. got them started in the 15th minute. He danced around the keeper and placed the ball perfectly in the bottom left corner. Williams Jr. has been an attacking force for the Broncos averaging .667 goals a game.

The Delhi defense would be tested but would stand strong, led by senior keeper Jonathan Walch who commanded his back line all night. Walch had four saves in the first and zero in the second on his way to Delhi's first clean sheet of the season.

"Taking a deep breath at halftime and putting together a much overall better second half performance was something that I was really happy with tonight," said coach Reutemann, "We have been searching for our first clean sheet of the year and earning that on the night of a big conference win, is something we will look to build onCesar Cruz-Vasquez was excellent tonight in all areas of the game and changed the dynamic of how we were able to play. Getting him back on the field over the past two weeks has provided us with the leadership we will absolutely need in the upcoming matches."

Delhi would extend their lead in the second half with a goal by Vaughn Bottex assisted by Anthony Cuellar in the 58th minute. Bottex would snag the ball from a cross by Cuellar off a free kick and slot it away for his fourth goal of the year.

The Broncos continued their defensive dominance in the second half, not allowing one shot on goal. They collected their 8th win of the season and their 3rd straight conference victory to move to 8-3-1 on the season.

The Broncos will get ready to face conference opponents Thomas College at home on Saturday, October 8th at 1 pm.
