The Broncos Take Down Cazenovia 4-1 in the First Conference Match on Neil Riddell Field

Delhi, NY - The Broncos (7-3-1, 3-0-1) continue to remain unbeaten in conference play after defeating Cazenovia 4-1 on Saturday. Four different Broncos found the back of the net as they were on the attack most of the game.

"Firstly, it is such a memorable occasion to have the members of the original SUNY Delhi Men's Soccer Team (1963-64) recognized on the field before the game. Anytime we can honor our rich past and connect our current culture, I believe provides tremendous value for all, said head coach E.J. Reutemann, "The game today brought with it a lot of energy and emotion from the fans on homecoming weekend. Embracing and using that positivity to our advantage was a big benefit from the start today. We have had some learning moments over the past week from both defending and attacking principles of play. I think the player's focus on those specific aspects of the game was very evident and a key factor for us today."

The Broncos had their foot on the gas pedal throughout the match as they ended with 34 total shots. They kicked off the match quickly in the 13th minute, with the NAC scoring leader Michael Williams Jr. scoring his 7th of the year. He put the ball right through the keeper's legs to go up one. He was set up perfectly by Derek Fuentes and the Broncos weren't close to being done, scoring their second just two minutes later. Defender, Vaughn Bottex would score his third goal of the season after cleaning up a Williams Jr. shot attempt. Bottex has been equally impressive on his defending line as he had been on the attack.

The Wildcats would answer back with a goal of their own to make the game 2-1 in the 37th minute. Delhi went into the half with 18 shots compared to Cazenovia's two.

The Broncos stampeded into the second period, scoring in the 54th minute to pull ahead 3-1. Julio Fernandez-Suarez scored his third of the season after receiving a cross from Matt Serrao and ripping it past the goalkeeper. Freshman, Matt Serrao is tied for leading the NAC in total assists with five on the year, averaging one assist every two games. Freshman, Erik Manta would cap off the superb offensive showing with his first goal of the year, a solo effort in the 69th minute.

The Bronco back line was stellar once again, commanded by Eric Kleczkowski who made it hard for the Wildcat offense to get anything started. They would suffocate the Wildcats all game, allowing only eight total shot attempts the whole match. Senior, Jonathan Walch played his first match since returning from an injury, making five total saves.

Delhi will prepare to face conference opponents SUNY Cobleskill on Wednesday, October 5th at 6 pm on Neil Riddell Field.
